District to Hold Virtual Town Hall Meeting about High School Mascot
Watertown Public Schools will hold a virtual town hall meeting about the use of the current high school mascot on Tuesday, November 17 at 7:00 pm. The virtual town hall meeting is occurring as part of the district’s continuing conversations about the use of the high school’s mascot, which have been taking place in response to a public request to change the Watertown High School mascot. Since October, the Watertown Public Schools Mascot Committee, which was established by the Board of Education in September, has been meeting to engage in a community discussion, with the assistance of experts in the field, on the subjects of race, culture, as well as the use of a Native American school mascot and name. Mascot Committee members include Watertown Board of Education members, community members, parents, Watertown High School students, staff members, and administrators. The committee’s goal is to inform the Board of Education of their findings on the matter of the mascot’s use and to present to the Board recommendations about the current name and mascot in January.
Interested participants should register to speak at the town hall and/or submit testimony to mascot@watertownps.org. The town hall will be livestreamed for public viewing on the Watertown Public Schools YouTube channel and participants can log into a Google Meet in order to speak during the Town Hall at meet.google.com/qgu-ngyf-mqt, or by phone at 1 443-574-7607 PIN: 357 769 343#.
Comments made during the Town Hall will be limited to three minutes per speaker. Interim Superintendent Dr. John Ramos will serve as the Town Hall’s facilitator.

Reminder to Class of 2020 Families to register to view the graduation video at Pleasant Valley Drive-In in Barkhamsted on Wednesday, July 29. Please check your email for all of the details!

School Nurse Mrs. Spagnoletti will be in the office on Thursday, July 30 and again on August 19th to answer any questions that families might have or to receive physicals. Parents can pull into the small drop off loop and can call Mrs. Spagnoletti directly at (860) 945-5021 when they arrive at the high school and she will go out and get the physical forms. Physical forms can also be mailed directly to the high school at 324 French Street to the attention of the school nurse.

Hello, Class of 2020 Families!
I hope everyone is doing well during these warm summer days. I am writing to provide you with some more specific information about the viewing of the Class of 2020 Graduation Video on Wednesday, July 29 at the Pleasant Valley Drive-In, 47 River Road, Barkhamsted.
The video will begin at 8:45 PM, and the drive-in parking lot will open at 7:00 PM. Since the drive-in can only accommodate 190 cars, only one vehicle per family is allowed. Please register to attend this event at the link at the end of this message.
We will need about 6-7 volunteers to assist with vehicle check-in and directing cars into parking spaces. Please sign-up to volunteer on the same page where you will register to attend.
You can bring your own snacks, and the drive-in's concession stand will also be open. You can sit in your vehicle to watch the video or sit in front of your vehicle in chairs that you bring.
Please bring a mask so that if you go to the concession stand or the bathroom, you can wear it at both of those locations. As with any event these days, six feet of distance is strongly recommended between your attending party and other attendees.
The graduation video will also be available on the district website after July 29.
Please click here to register for the graduation video viewing event.
I hope that you continue to enjoy the summer, and thank you for your support of our students and our school.
Sincerely yours,
Janet P. Parlato, Ed.D.

Luminary Lighting at Veterans' Park is actually Saturday, June 13, and the Senior Parade is Sunday, June 14, beginning at WHS.

Hello, Class of 2020 Families,
We’re heading toward the home stretch, and I wanted to provide you with some information about a few upcoming events and provide one reminder.
The Senior Photo Signs will be placed at Veterans’ Park for viewing beginning on Saturday, June 6. On Sunday, June 13, in the evening, there will be a luminary lighting near the signs to showcase all of the photos. This will be the kick-off event for Senior Week! You will be able to pick up your senior’s sign to take home from Veterans’ Park on either June 17 or June 18.
The Senior Parade will be on Sunday, June 14, with arrival at WHS at 12:30. Here is the car registration form if you have not yet completed it.
Another email will come next week with specific directions for the June 17 graduation. Also, we are still waiting to hear from the publisher about the status of our yearbooks.
The reminder in this message has to do with grades. Please check your child’s grades on PowerSchool tomorrow or this weekend so that there are no surprises as we get toward the finish line. Friday, June 5 is a full make-up work day for students, and so are June 10, 11, and 12. Ninety-nine percent of seniors’ work should be submitted by Friday, June 12 at the very latest. Again, checking PowerSchool will give you information to reinforce the important message about work completion that we have been emphasizing for months. We all appreciate your help as the days get warmer and everyone’s attention is far away from academics.
Thank you for your continued support and flexibility as we continue through these challenging and unprecedented days.
Sincerely yours,
Janet P. Parlato, Ed.D.
